A little about me, your Losing Weight Mom fellow challenger, I have been battling the bulge for as long as I can remember. I come from an extremely “fit family” of good lookin girls but I’ve always been the chubby one. A year and a half ago I decided to join a weight loss challenge (similar to this one) and I was one of the biggest losers. The 8 week before/after pictures were significant enough that I felt like OH MY GOSH I CAN LOSE WEIGHT! Since then I have been working towards being a healthier me.
I don’t have a ton of “before” pictures because I was always really good at hiding in pictures, sound familiar??
Being healthy is a lifestyle… I don’t think I am considered a “health nut” yet, I still have too many off days… step by step let’s become “health nuts” together!!
CHALLENGE!!! This challenge is for me. For the rest of our challenge, I am going without fast food. I’ve had to rely on it too much lately because of traveling. And then it seems that even after I’m home from traveling the habit is still there. This isn’t good for me, and its definitely not good for my children. Yesterday we were out running errands, I hadn’t planned ahead so I ended up at Mcdonalds with my kids because we were all starving. I don’t want my kids to think that it’s “normal” for us to just go grab lunch at a fast food place or little caesars for dinner… I want them to appreciate good food. They love my cooking, so why give them the junk that I’m trying to stay away from?
So here is my challenge to everyone, evaluate yourself. Can you do better? Are there areas where you are slipping up? Are there things you do that you know aren’t good for your health? How can you make small improvements? We all have different weaknesses I’m sure, so I can’t tell you what you can or should change. Only you can decide that for yourself.
So I’ve already told you my area that is lagging… what is yours? Share it if you would like to!!! Maybe it will help you to do better at it!
So here’s my official challenge for myself: no eating out/fast food unless it is planned. Meaning a date with my hubby or a family dinner somewhere, where I know I can control myself and pick something healthy. (Even those, I will limit to once a week at most). Gotta kick it into gear now, I have just been drifting these last few weeks and not putting in the effort that I need to! Its ok that I haven’t done well, I can start TODAY! I’m not giving up!!! Are you ready?!
So I have had lots of people ask me how I am able to do “well” or eat healthy at parties? On super bowl sunday I did a post similar to this HERE.
This is what I’ve decided, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PLAN. You get to decide your plan, whatever it may be. One plate of food and one dessert. One plate of food, no dessert. One plate of food, unlimited veggies/salad and one small dessert. Not eating at all (some people are better at this than others and sometimes it is just easier to say no to everything.) So whatever your plan is, make one and stick to it!
Some helpful suggestions:
Tell your spouse or a good friend what your “plan” is.
Bring something healthy with you to the party. (more…)
Why should I give up diet coke? This has been the question in my mind for 15 years! I’ve always thought drinking your calories was bad, and since Diet Coke has no calories, I thought it was ok. I have never actually had the desire to give it up, but I have wanted to prove to people that I could if I wanted to. I can say that I’ve always been a little embarressed with myself how at every event, playdate, girls night etc. I always had to have my diet coke in hand.
I had a realization a while back that most woman who drink as much diet coke as I did were in fact overweight. When I realized this, I was sad. Like I said, I didn’t want to give it up.
About 6 weeks ago I decided it was time. I gave my reasons HERE. I am trying so hard to be a “health nut.” I want to be healthy. I am pretty sure consuming 42oz+ of Diet Coke every day is NOT healthy.

Sometimes the number on the scale won’t budge. It makes it hard to feel good about yourself when that happens! Here is a fun little Challenge that I’m starting with a big group of my friends this week. Even if the scale doesn’t budge, when you are making good healthy choices daily, you should feel good about yourself! Here’s the chart for our little challenge:
Can’t go to the gym because you have little kids? This is perfect for you! 5 times today, do as many burpees as you can. Whenever the time is best for you, but do it 5 different times!
Try doing it when you find yourself in a slum or feeling low on energy. These will help get your heart rate up and give you a spark of energy!! My 3 year old boy LOVES burpees! He even tells his teachers at preschool that he’s good at them. Healthy mom, healthy family!
